"things that make you go hmmm.."

Speaking of earthquakes, Jojo, I felt a tremor for the 1st time in all of my 30something years. I didn't know what it was till latter this morning. DH had just left for work around 5:3-ish. I had rolled over to go back to sleep and it felt like my bed was swaying back and forth. At 1st I thought one of the kids had woken up and was leaning on the bed trying to decide if they were going to wake me up or not. I pop my head up and no ones there. Then the feeling got slightly stronger, I sit up thinking, "am I imagining this? there's no one here, what is going on!?" Then it stopped, I got up shaking my head thinking maybe I'm a bit sleep deprived, went to the bathroom and went back to sleep.

Around 8:30 while I was watching the news they started talking about the earthquake in Illinois. Didn't dawn on me, why would it, I live in Michigan. Then they said it happened at 5:36 this morning and I went "hmmm." But I wasn't convinced until they said tremors were reported to being felt all the way up to Grand Rapids. So far, most of the people I know slept through it. DH was driving and didn't notice it. But that was pretty interesting.

Here's a little snippet from one of our local news stations:

The USGS Web site says the quake was centered near West Salem, Illinois, or about 40 miles north of Evansville, Indiana. The quake was felt as far away as Milwaukee, 350 miles to the north. Skyscrapers shook in Chicago's Loop, 240 miles north of the epicenter, and in Indianapolis, 160 miles to the northeast. People in Cincinnati and St. Louis also felt the earth shake.

If you want to read the rest of it, go here. There's also a little video of what the weather man thought was the camera shaking in the breeze, which was actually the tremors.

Something interesting I just heard on the news. Apparently April 18th is a significant day in earthquake history. 1906, California.

other updates:

A few weeks ago I woke up and couldn't turn my head to the left at all w/o pain. The next day it was worse and I was in tears. My chiropractor was on vacation for 2 weeks. (i firmly believe that chiropractors should not be allowed to take vacations, ever). I prayed about what to do. One other time that this happened I went to the regular Doc and she gave me a muscle relaxer that I was supposed to take every so many hours, but made me loopy. I have 3 kids at home, I can't take that stuff during the day. After talking to Ronnie about it she suggested this massage therapist that works in the same office building as her. I called her and went in and let me just tell you that I now believe she works miracles. We're going to send each other clients also.

In the almost 3 weeks after that massage, I've only had 3 headaches. Which is why I say she's a miracle worker. I usually have 3 headaches a week. I'm going to start going to her once or twice a month. Between her and the chiropractor, I should be virtually headache free:) (here's hoping!)

and, no baby yet....

April 18, 1906 at 5:13 am, that's SF's anniversary. And you guys have one today at 5:36 am. OO-EE-OO!!

I hope that your neck/head feel better though. Head pain is the worst. Have a great weekend and I hope that the baby comes soon; the mom-to-be must be getting pretty uncomfortable.

odd, aint it? I read that this morning and thought "now ppl won't think I am crazy"... in 1986 or 87, we lived in Interlochen, MI and we had some tremors while I was at school.

No one believed me (from my adulthood) saying that MI doesn't get earthquakes... well, what do you think the Great Lakes are? Tetonic Plates - a fault line.

I got booted off my router last night just as I hit the 'publish your comment button'. I was going to tell you that doulas are the in thing here in my town. Your clients will recommend you to their friends and I predict you will be booked solid by next year.
I've never felt an earthquake in the 30 years I've lived in cali.
I used to not believe that chiropractors were of any use until I saw first hand the instant relief TestCase had back in high school when he played soccer. His lower back would get torqued from the extreme kicking motion that misaligns the pelvis w/ the spine. One yank of the leg and Pop! = happy boy.

two things: 1) I love my chiropractor (so much that I'd marry him if we weren't both already married, and if he wasn't the same age as my dad)
and 2) The tremors woke me up at 5:30ish this morning in Grand Rapids, I also thought it was my kid, climbing into my bed...

hmmmmmm.... i read a post at laurell k hamilton's blog that she also felt the earthquake (she lives in st. louis). which, st. louis borders illinois so that'd make sense why she felt it. i sure didn't feel it up here in kansas city. i think it'd be interesting to be in an earthquake (not a big one, of course). i've never been in one before. only tornados :P

Dentists shouldn't be allowed to go on holiday either. Mine's always away when I have a tooth problem.
